Steve Kemm has met with the Conservation folks at Bois D’Arc and submitted the schedule printed below. Last year, if you remember, we had a couple of modifications after the fact because of conflicts with things happening at the Dalton Range. We will go forward assuming that these dates will work, but it is always best to check back late in the Spring.

|---|---|---|
| January ??? | Dinner and Business Meeting | Heritage Cafeteria ??? |
| February 7 | Fun Shoot | Dalton Range and Garage |
| March 7 | Clinic | Dalton Range and Garage |
| March 21 | Beginner’s Match | Dalton Range and Garage |
| April 18 | JGC Rules / Any Rifle Match | Dalton Range |
| May 9 | Spring John C. Garand Match – Entry Fee | Dalton Range |
| June 27 | Springfield Match | Dalton Range |
| July 18 | Carbine Match | Dalton Range |
| August 15 | Rimfire Sporter Match | Dalton Range |
| September 12 | JGC Rules / Any Rifle Match | Dalton Range |
| October 10 | Fall John C. Garand Match – Entry Fee | Dalton Range |
You will note two omissions compared to last year.
First, we have not scheduled a reloading clinic. Over the years it seems that the ‘beginning reloading’ subject is of interest to fewer people. If you feel this would be a worthwhile activity, please let me know and we’ll see what we can do to include it in our schedule.
Second, you will note the lack of matches at the Aim Rite range in Miller. I have not worked up anything beyond the Dalton schedule as of now.
And, frankly, the Miller matches were not well attended (10-15 people, maximum) and cost us money ($100 per match to rent the range), so I’m somewhat reticent to schedule them again this year. If you have any thoughts on this subject please communictate them to me.
You will note that I invited comments on the schedule. That doesn’t mean comments only from people I hang around with or experienced shooters. It means exactly what the words say: if you feel either of these activities are something you would like us to schedule because it would benefit you, please let me know. Our club generally goes out of its way to schedule activities aimed at helping get started in our sport, and I think it is of the utmost importance to do so. Let me know what you think.
After a week of other activities, I finally got the bulletin from the October 18 JCG posted, although we are having some problems with web formatting. We will get it worked out.
Attendance was a bit low (21 shooters) and I wonder if it would be better to hold the match in September rather than October. Would it matter?
I want to alert everyone to one of the more exciting discoveries I’ve had in seeking a more successful training regimen for offhand shooting. I have been experimenting with shooting at big targets at short range with the air rifle, and the results have been astounding—really! I haven’t got time right now to write up my experiment, but you can get the gist of it (in fact, all you need to know if you feel like trying it yourself, by reading this interesting article by an Olympic air pistol competitor:
http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2008/04/converting-anti-gunner-and-teaching.html
The guy writing it goes by the pseudonym B.B. Pelletier—and he writes about pellet guns—imagine! It is actually a guy by the name of Tom Gaylord, and he writes a blog about air guns EVERY DAY. And believe me, it is worth reading.
I have adapted his technique to using the rifle, and I can guarantee you it works. When I get enough time to work through some of the other things I want to do with it, I will write it up in the tips and techniques section of the web page. And I also have scanned some practice targets in for you to use, including one of the silhouette targets many of us are using in a postal match—one that we compete with each other by mailing the targets we shoot in our basements to a central authority to score—and you may want to join in this.
